I cannot overstate this.

These people do not have a fucking clue what they’re talking about.

I want to say "this is the stupidest possible take on how laws work" but that precludes the possibility of there being other, even stupider takes that I am dead certain are being thought up by tech bros as we speak.

anyway, the reason laws benefit some people and not others is because different people need and want different things. a law that benefits 100% of all people is impossible, no matter how complex it is. and this is before you start to incorporate confounding variables like "making mistakes" or "lying about stuff" or "having incredibly wacky priorities."

I genuinely have no idea if this guy really doesn't understand why laws are currently the way they are and thinks the problem is that they haven't invented Uber Law yet (which, given the track record tech bros have had when trying to re-invent money and vending machines and juice, is a very strong possibility), or if he knows what he's saying is bullshit and is just advocating for laws with different clauses for each individual human it applies to, which is the same as just not having any laws.

Why do these dudes never take into account that AI systems are programed by humans, and the mass data scrapings used to find patterns are recorded human behaviours, so will include the total sum of our dumassry, narcissim/lack of empathic capacity, impulse control issues, and so forth?

Yes, humans have empathy and will pack bond with any-damn-thing.

But empathy and kindness and logic is a taught skill.

Individuals do have a variation in how well they can learn and implement these skills when they are taught them (by whatever means).

But they are taught through a thousand little situations between individuals, and individuals and wider society.

Difficult to do with AI programs.

Especially if some idiot tech bro thinks certain patterns and info are unnecessary/superfluous/junk and disregards them in an effort to streamline things.
